Carbon Offsetting
We’re committed to lightening our footprint on the planet. To do this, we support trusted carbon-offset programs that focus on reforestation and better forest care. Since trees remain one of the most powerful tools for absorbing carbon, these efforts directly counterbalance the emissions from your order, ensuring your package arrives 100% carbon neutral.
Projects We Fund
West Sombrio is proud to work alongside Pachama in backing three independently verified carbon projects. These initiatives, recognized by the Verified Carbon Standard, focus on expanding reforestation, advancing responsible land use, and curbing forest loss.
Fazenda Sao Nicolao (Amazon Rainforest, Brazil)
Fazenda São Nicolao, a reforestation initiative in Brazil’s Amazon region, spans 1,900 hectares and holds the distinction of being the first forestry project in the country to earn Verified Carbon Standard certification. Once cleared for cattle and coffee in the late 20th century, the land is now being restored through afforestation, replanting, and biodiversity recovery. The project uses 54 native species to reestablish forest cover—an area nearly half the size of Manhattan.
Jaguar Amazon REDD (Amazon Rainforest, Peru)
In the Peruvian Amazon’s Madre de Dios region, the Jaguar Amazon REDD program helps defend a forest area of exceptional biodiversity. As infrastructure like the trans-oceanic highway accelerates local development, deforestation risks rise. This project combats those threats through sustainable forestry, including Brazil nut processing, careful small-scale harvests, and fire prevention strategies.
Los Bancos (Northern Mexico)
The Ejido Forestal Los Bancos project, founded in 2018, works to conserve pine-oak woodlands in northern Mexico that are collectively managed by 44 Ejidatarios. To generate both climate impact and community benefit, the program leaves 30% more timber after harvests than legally required, targeting 376,166 tons of CO₂ absorption within ten years. It also strengthens conservation efforts and builds infrastructure for forest fire protection.
How Your Dollar Works
For every dollar West Sombrio contributes to Pachama, 20 cents supports their operations and technology, while the remaining 80 cents flows straight into on-the-ground forest projects.
